NGN

What are Non Geographic Numbers?

Non Geographic Numbers or NGN's are telephone numbers available for private sale, with no particular geographic location associated with it. Many businesses feel that by using an NGN rather than an 'ordinary' 01/02 number they can give their company a more professional image, increasing their customers perception of the companies size and professionalism.

How do Non Geographic Numbers work?

The chosen number 'sits' in front of the existing telephone number, therefore when an individual calls the NGN the call will come through to the phone line chosen.

What are the different types of Non Geographic Numbers?

Within the UK there are different numbers to suit different needs.

0800 Free phone - caller pays nothing, the recipient of the call pays the full inbound call.

0845 often referred to as Local Rate or Lower Rate - caller pays a percentage of the call, the recipient pays the remaining balance of the call cost.

0870 often referred to as Special Services or Higher Rate - caller pays for the cost of the call and the recipient may in some cases generate a revenue stream.

0871 Fixed Rate - caller pays 10p per minute and the recipient may in some instances generate a revenue share.

0844 Fixed Rate - caller pays 5p per minute and the recipient may in some instances generate a revenue share.

0333 - 03 numbers have been introduced as an alternative to 08 business phone numbers, such as 0870 and 0871 numbers. Customers have a clear understanding of the price that they will be paying to call 03 numbers, as the cost of calling is the same as landlines (e.g. 01 or 02), even from mobiles.
